About The Book
In a land where three suns almost never set, a fledgling killer joins a school of assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers who destroyed her family.
Daughter of an executed traitor, Mia Corvere is barely able to escape her father’s failed rebellion with her life. Alone and friendless, she hides in a city built from the bones of a dead god, hunted by the Senate and her father’s former comrades. But her gift for speaking with the shadows leads her to the door of a retired killer, and a future she never imagined.
Now, Mia is apprenticed to the deadliest flock of assassins in the entire Republic—the Red Church. If she bests her fellow students in contests of steel, poison and the subtle arts, she’ll be inducted among the Blades of the Lady of Blessed Murder, and one step closer to the vengeance she desires. But a killer is loose within the Church’s halls, the bloody secrets of Mia’s past return to haunt her, and a plot to bring down the entire congregation is unfolding in the shadows she so loves.
Will she even survive to initiation, let alone have her revenge?

I may have an unpopular opinion… I didn’t love this book. To be honest, I knew I wasn’t going to love it because this is my second time trying to read this book. I dnf’d the first time around because I just could not get past the footnotes. To me, this book was 90% boring. I really enjoyed the ending though and that is the only reason why I’m giving this book a three-star rating.
I found it kind of odd that Mia was just sixteen in this book? I thought this was an adult series and it definitely is. This author gave a sixteen-year-old a boob job? He also wrote extremely graphic sex scenes with her? I’m sorry, I just was not expecting Mia to be so young. I thought she was an adult when I went into this series.
I really love Mr. Kindly. He honestly made this book. Also so did Ashlinn. I listened to the audiobook so I’m hoping that’s the correct person. I’m hoping she is a reoccurring character and not just one that went away when shit went down.
I am going to continue with this series. Mostly because I have already invested my money in purchasing the entire trilogy…
